It Lives!

April 17, 2013 Leave a comment

Long time no post, I know. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy, though. Theatre tends to take up a lot of my time from January to March.

I did find time for two more things:

First, an update on Statuesque – I’ve done a lot of work to the eyes, nose and chin, and I’ve thrown in a background and finished the hair. I’d call it about 80% done – still to do is the shoulders, the final touches on the eyes ( I always save those for last), sign it and oil it out to even the sheen.

Next, I’ve done some work on a poster for the Christmas concert for the choir I’m in. It’s fairly sparse to save room for the title, the ticket info and such. I really like how this one turned out. It’s simple but fun.

Oil Painting – Statuesque – part 1

Slow progress on the personal projects right now as I’ve got a few pro-bono pieces I’m working on for other groups. I have managed to squeeze in some time to work on this, based on a photo of a statue I took at my last trip to the ROM. They had it lit so gorgeously I couldn’t resist trying to paint it.  I’m still fairly new to painting with real media, so I’m using this mainly as a practice piece, since it lends itself well to a limited palette. The left side isn’t quite that light in person – I don’t have access to a tripod so I had to use the flash.

Cyandog, check. Also: a pretty butterfly

Been a while so I thought I’d post a few updates.

First, a progress shot on that medabots fanart. Cyandog is in place and I’m halfway through colouring him. Once that’s done I just need to add some drop shadows to the trees and tighten things up a bit.

Second, a painting I recently finished and gave to my friend for her birthday. Took over a year from when I first said I’d “paint her a butterfly” and when I actually got it done >.<
