In which I attempt to come up with an entry for ConceptArt’s Enviros of the Week and fail

Today I thought I’d post a few sketches from my sketchbook that have yet to go anywhere.

Firstly, I was at one point trying to think of something to enter conceptart’s Environments of the Week, when the topic was ancient ruined palaces. I googled furiously, I downloaded lots of images, I made quite a few sketches.

Wasn’t able to come up with a whole concept, but there are a few sketches that I like pieces of:

I liked the walls and the towers, but I really didn’t know where to take it from there, the layout of the building, etc. Liked the angle, though.

In this one, I like the colonnade entrance and the cracked wall, but again, no clue where to go from there.

Lastly, a quick armour study I did based on a pic I had saved to my hard drive at some point:

More still life progress, and finished coloured portrait

April 7, 2010 1 comment

Since the rest of the family is busy downstairs watching Lost, I might as well update.

I haven’t started any new progress lately, so today it’s just a few progress shots from last week.

Firstly, finished adding colour to the portrait from last week:

And secondly, more progress on the wine glasses. I actually managed to finish this one this weekend, but it’s still drying, so I don’t have a photo of it yet. I’m looking forward to being able to take down the easel and get the space in my room back for a while, so I doubt I’ll do another oil painting for a few weeks.

I’ve got an idea for a Tales of fanart that I’ve been sketching out, but I can’t get the perspective on the characters right. At the moment I’m fooling around with my pose dummy to see if that’ll help, otherwise I’ll have to swipe a trypod and try to photograph myself in the poses.
